Genetics: DNA Data of life
Why are human beings instead of, say, an orangutan? Let's look at the facts of DNA in life, I can say for their children or grandchildren. No, no, do not be boring! In fact, the answer is very simple.
The genes they received from their parents were coded by a homo sapien. Genes, of course, go much further in filling out all the details varied than is reflected in the mirror. Skin, eyes, hair color, size, height, type of nose, ears, mouth, and many other features depend on what is inherited in their genes. Every biology student knows that much. But what we are talking when we use the word "genes"?
Within the nucleus of every cell there is a two long chain molecule as a chain of deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA for short. These two varieties are parallel to each other and look like a long spiral staircase. The steps are called nucleotides or bases.
In examining the bases, find they are made up of four chemicals: thymine (T), adenine (A), cytosine (C) and guanine (G). The sides of the stairway, which measures have together, are composed of alternating phosphate and deoxyribose molecules. The entire structure is referred to as the DNA helix.
Two of the four substances chemical combine to each step. And the steps are always arranged in one of the four patterns. T combined with A, or vice versa, combined with T. Likewise, combined with GC or backwards G with C. These are called supplemental agreements. They do not form any other pattern.
Now Here's an extraordinary event. Everything we have said so now applies to all animals and plants. Redwood from bacteria to man, the same DNA agreement is true. What makes humans different anatomically the redwoods and bacteria is just the length and base sequence of nucleotides in the DNA helix.
Every life form has its own number distinctive, and arrangement of nucleotides. Geneticists tell us that, excluding asexual organisms and identical twins, no two plants, animals or humans are identical in their DNA sequences. How it works It is similar to a factory.
The "factory" changes every thymine (T) molecule on another chemical called uracil (U). The other three chemicals remain the same. The nucleotides are then grouped together in groups of three called triplets or codons. Each codon is an order or command for the cell to take action. These codons are translated by the cell in one of the twenty amino acids. A single message it may include hundreds or even thousands of amino acids linked together in chronological order.
, The exact type, order, and the number of outcomes of amino acids in a protein specific. These proteins produce specific types of cells in the embryo. And these types of cells develop in different organs: arms, legs, etc. See how it builds up? Every part of your physical body can be traced to their source of DNA.
In single-celled bacteria, about three billion bases of nucleotides in the DNA helix. For humans, the number is about three million. But it is exactly the same. The three billion nucleotides in the DNA code for proteins of bacteria, while only 10 percent of the human nucleotide code for protein production. What do the rest?
They are called introns, and no shortage of speculation about them. They may have something to do with the regulation of genes or chromosomal structures. Again, that could be split to divide the set of genes in different functional units. But nobody really knows what they do. They are simple, highly repetitive sequences that seem meaningless.
Question to Consider: Does the DNA helix are single-celled life forms to the simple structures that could reasonably have originated by accident?
