Run for the hills, hide your children, cover your eyes! Here, in all its terrible glory, is a saturated fat. The biggest killer in the Western world. OK, I know what you're thinking. Is that it? Yup, that's all. Saturated fats are among the simplest of all molecules in the body.

Containing carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, and all have a COOH group at an end. They can be much longer, can have a longer chain of carbon atoms, each two hydrogen atoms attached. Or they may be shorter.
However, like saturated fat is almost as exciting to get. So what happens to this substance is so deadly?

Frankly, I'm the wrong person to ask because they do not go thinking that saturated fats are in any way harmful or dangerous. If they were, would not taste so damn delicious.
Nature tends to warn us away from dangerous foods, making them bitter and repulsive. Or give them a bright red. But anyway, I know the argument against in the full glory of their Darwinian: Nature does not care about us after we are too old to breed, so things that kill us after 50 years of age does not matter.

I refuse to enter into this debate because it is neither winning nor loseable. You agree, or reject it, according to its philosophical pre-existing prejudices. Anyway, you know what is a saturated fat, maybe you should submit to an unsaturated fat, the tree-huggers, Gaia-loving, spiritual healers of humanity: humanity sorry.
